| Apple Pie Awards go to those who recognize the problem of gun violence in America and do something about it. These outstanding individuals are champions for bringing common sense arguments to counter the out of step gun lobby. |
The Time Out Chair features people, organizations and corporations who put sensible gun practices on the back burner in favor of the out of touch gun lobby. Mom's know who's been bad and who's been good and we want to make sure that everyone knows who is in the time out chair and why they deserve it. |
Apple Pie Recipient: Santa Rosa Council Member Jane Bender
The Sonoma County Chapter recently gave an Apple Pie Award to Santa Rosa Council Member Jane Bender as part of their traditional Mother's Day.
The Chapter thanked Council Member Bender for her leadership on youth safety in the face of gun violence.
Bender helped initiate the SPEAK UP campaign in Santa Rosa, which provides an anonymous phone number for youth to call if they see a gun at school or in their neighborhood.
The SPEAK UP phone number has been advertised in Sonoma County high schools, on buses and in community centers. In Sonoma County the number will soon be printed on student information cards.
So an Apple Pie Award is presented to Santa Rosa Council Member Jane Bender for taking the lead in efforts to protect our youth from gun crime and gun violence.
