Why I March [image]

Shanda (DC)
I march for my 19 year-old son Rodney and 14 year-old daughter Volante, who were mistakenly murdered at the same time here in the nation's capital.

Davette (PA)
I march for my son Christopher, who was shot in the head by a boy he called his friend. My son was 18, a lifeguard and a father of my grandson, Chris Jr. He was my first child, and my heart and soul.

Joann (DC)
I march for my son Damian, and I share the pain of all who have lost their children to gun violence.

Rita (CA)
I march for my son, Chad, who was an innocent victim of gun violence. Chad was murdered by two men with a semi-automatic handgun loaded with Black Talon bullets. Both the weapon and the ammunition were created for no other reason then to kill another human being.

Carrie & Daniel (NY)
We march for Mel who was killed in Brooklyn, New York on January 25, 2004.

Elizabeth (CA)
I march for Wendy, who was senselessly murdered during a robbery in Hollywood on October 28, 2000. I march because the nightmare we have been living, and that which is to follow, should not happen as often as it does.

Connie (NJ)
I march for my 26-year-old son, Al, who was shot three times in the head at close range by a co-worker that he was driving to the bus stop.

Amy (OH)
I march because I was shot in the head in a drive-by shooting when I was 18 years old. I march so other people don't have to go through what I did, or worse. I will use my voice for the ones fallen to gun violence.

Rhonda (CA)
I march because I believe that our work will make our neighborhoods safer. I don't want my kids (or anyone's kids) to ever have to worry about whether they are safe at school or camp.

Sandra (TX)
I march because my son Jerome was shot dead in cold blood with a Glock 9mm while walking downtown.

Ladd (DC)
I march because 30,000 people continue to die each year from gun violence in this country. It is a shameful tragedy and entirely unnecessary. Our gun laws in America are lax and ridden with loopholes because of the power of the gun lobby.

Debra (WI)
I march because my only son and his two friends were killed by a felon with a gun. I march because it is legal for private citizens to sell guns without criminal background checks. I am pushing legislation to change this law.

Kara (VA)
I march for my son Kody who died just after his 13th birthday when he was playing with a gun that accidentally discharged. Since then, I have been committed to reducing the senseless deaths of children who die by gunfire through accidents, suicides and murders.

Stacey (DE)
I march because my 17 year-old cousin was murdered in his neighborhood. I march because I have children. I march because my cousin can't.

Ann & Robert (FL)
I march because I wanted some action. Since Robert cannot speak for himself, Million Mom March/ Brady Campaign gave me the chance to help others. When he was killed, it took us 2 years to truly start life over. I miss my son Robert. He was a child that always had a smile on, he believed in "don't worry be happy".

Danette (VA)
I march for my daughter who was killed 11 years ago by a stray bullet that hit her in her left eye. She suffered for 10 hours before she died. She was only 19 years old. God bless all the moms and dads that had to go thought this. I know their pain because I still feel mine.

Judy (CA)
I march for my son and his best friend who were murdered in Los Angeles by a gang with guns. He had his whole life ahead of him - that life was stopped short by a gun.

Montoria (MD)
I march because my oldest son Ricardo Minnis Jr. and his best friend BJ were both murdered with a gun. My son left behind a 7 year old daughter who misses her Dad.

Marsha (TX)
I march for the parents, sisters, brothers, grandparents and friends who have lost loved ones to gun violence. I march so that fewer Americans will have to experience the devastating news that their loved one has been killed by a firearm. I march because I believe in common sense gun laws.

Janey (KS)
I march so that the voices of those who have been killed or injured by firearms can be heard. This focus on guns in America must stop.

Gisela (NY)
I march for my daughter Jessica N. Santos, the innocent victim of a drive by shooting. I march in her memory and to save innocent lives!

Loren (CA)
I march because my words became an empty promise. My son Joshua, who was 6 years old, was shot at day camp. If he wasn't safe there, could any of us be safe anywhere?

Anna (CA)
I march because our only child, Teresa Del Rio, age 20 (www.teresadelrio.net) was shot through her car door in Rampart, Los Angeles. Teresa was the third victim of a shooter for gangs.

Barbara (IL)
I march because my husband Jim was senselessly murdered with an AKS assault rifle. He was a stay-at-home dad to our 3 young children.

Tricia (OH)
I march for my son, Jayvien, who I lost to gun violence. He was only 22 years young. He was on his way home from night school when he was chased by three other youths and shot in the back of the head.

Julie (MA)
I march for my brother John who died 20 years after being shot during a hold up. He never fully recovered despite several surgeries. He suffered both physically and psychologically for years.

Devy (AL)
I march for my only child Shelly, who was accidentally shot and killed by a friend at the young age of 20. The gun that killed my daughter was bought on the street. I march with the hope of keeping other parents from the pain of losing a child. I march for my angel Shelly.

Sarah (GA)
I march in hope that no child will lose their parent(s) the way I did. Shortly after I turned 8 years old, my father was shot and killed with a 22 rifle by the hands of another family member. My father was taken from me by fear and passion and the easy accessibility of a rifle.

Gloria (NY)
I march for the families that are destroyed by gun violence. My niece was gunned down at a Labor Day picnic in 2005 and our lives have never been the same. We need to speak up and change the laws and mind set of America.

Sheree (AL)
I march for my son, Christopher, who was killed in a random robbery in Manhattan Beach, California in 1995.

Nancy (MO)
I march because five years ago, my then 13 year old son was accidentally shot in the chest by a friend playing with his father's 357 magnum. By the grace of God he did not die, but was hospitalized for a lengthy time with a punctured and collapsed lung. It took a full year to recover physically, but the emotional scars live on.
